Foundation

When you first see someone, they must notice you and not your makeup. If they notice your makeup first, then your makeup is applied incorrectly. But if they notice you, then your makeup is perfect.

Makeup should be used to accentuate your best features and diminish you less perfect ones. When an artist does a painting, he or she must first prepare the canvas with a base. This preparation must have the proper coverage to conceal the imperfections in the canvas and provide a smooth surface on which to work. It should be a neutral color to bring out the colors the artist intends to use. Usually the neutral primer used is white.

In the world of makeup, the makeup artist uses Foundation as the base primer to prepare the face like a canvas. When doing a beauty makeover, one cannot use white of course, as it will create an unnatural appearance. You must find a “primer” that closely matches your natural skin tone as much as possible. The base must have proper coverage and be neutral to so that the eye, cheek and lip makeup can properly highlight your natural beauty. Applying foundation before your other makeup makes your skin look smooth and helps to give you that flawless look.

The following are your basic options:

Liquid Foundations

Liquid foundations usually offer spreading coverage and provide a natural look. Most women prefer a liquid foundation because they are the easiest to apply. They are available in water-based and oil-based formulas.

If you are going to use a liquid foundation try to find one with no Petrochemicals such as Propylene Glycol, Proplyparaben, Methylparaben (or any Parabens) and Mineral Oil. It is also better to get one without fragrances.

Cream Foundations

Cream foundations are commonly available in compacts or sticks, and can provide good coverage. Foundations of this type provide a creamy more complete finish that is easy to apply. Cream foundation should be applied in long sweeping motions using your cosmetic sponge. Blend evenly until you create a smooth flawless finish.

Also be careful of the ingredients in these. Most liquid and cream foundations have water as their first ingredient. Any water added to a product requires a stronger preservative and will most likely have a high amount of Parbens or other Petrochemical and synthetic ingredients to keep it preserved. These can irritate the skin, clog pores and create breakouts.

Mineral Powder Foundation

This is usually a powder and foundation in one. More commonly known as Mineral Foundation. It provides the easy application of a powder with the excellent coverage of a foundation. This is the one that we would recommend the most. It allows the skin to breath, unlike liquid and cream foundations, and without the look and feel of wearing a heavy mask. Though it can be a bit messy at times it is still way worth it for how your skin will look and feel.

There are several brands of Mineral Foundations out there and their ingredients can vary. Most of them have Zinc which is very good for your skin. Zinc is well known for its soothing and healing properties as well as it has natural sunscreen properties.

The best Mineral Foundations are the ones that keep it simple with only minerals as the ingredients. Avoid the ones that have Talc, Cornstarch, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Dyes or Parabens, as these can cause skin irritations.
